The Glenvar golfers battled to a third place finish in a Three Rivers District match at the Olde Mill course in Laurel Fork last week.

“Olde Mill was a beast with many tough pin placements,” said Glenvar coach Shawn Duff. “We scrapped for a third-place finish.”

As has been the case in every district match this year, Floyd County was the low team. This time the Buffaloes shot a 298 to win by 40 strokes over second place James River. Glenvar had 344, Carroll County had 347, Radford came in at 350, Patrick County had 359 and Martinsville brought up the rear at 518.

Isaiah Cantrell of Floyd was the medalist with a 69. Glenvar’s best score was 78 by JD Williamson. John Deel had an 87, Jack Osburn shot 88 and Easton Quesenberry rounded out the scoring with a 91.

“We shot 23 strokes better than our previous outing at Olde Mill,” said Duff. “We are starting to make connections to course management strategies we have been discussing. We will continue to put a focus on positive mind set and course management strategies as we prepare for end of season tournament play.”

The All-District team was announced last week and Deel, a freshman, made the second team.
