The Glenvar High boys’ and girls’ soccer teams have a combined 11 players on the Virginia High School League Class 2 all-state teams that were announced this week. Six Glenvar boys made the first team while three Glenvar girls were first team selections and two girls were named to the second team.
Glenvar senior Kian Fisher has been named the Class 2 state Player of the Year while Highlander boys’ coach Josh Jones has been named state Coach of the Year. Both also received Region 2C Player of the Year and Coach of the Year honors in recent weeks.
Fisher capped off a stellar senior season, scoring 25 goals while contributing 11 assists and tallying 61 points for the state-champion Highlanders. Fisher’s finishing skills were center stage in the state tournament. He provided the game-tying assist and game-winning goal in Glenvar’s 3-1 state semifinal victory over Clarke County. A two-year team captain, he led the Highlanders to three consecutive state titles and four consecutive district and regional championships.
The attacking midfielder scored 44 goals, provided 20 assists and amassed 108 points throughout his career. An all-district and all-region first-team selection this season, Fisher earned first-team all-district, first-team all-region, and second-team all-state in 2024. He also earned first-team all-region selection as a sophomore.
“Kian had such a tremendous career in our soccer program,” said coach Jones. “He is such a dynamic player and one who makes the opposing teams cringe when he gets the ball because he is so dangerous with it. He has the ability to do so many things on the soccer field; defend, distribute, finish and take players on. His quickness, field vision and technical abilities make him such an impactful player. I’m so glad Kian could end his career as a three-time State Champion and State Player of the Year.”
In five seasons leading the Highlander boys’ program Jones’ team has won five consecutive Three-Rivers District Championships, five consecutive Region C Championships and three consecutive state championships. His 2024 and 2025 teams finished undefeated, going 23-0 and 22-0. Jones owns a five-year record of 98-3-2 and has Glenvar currently on a 61-game unbeaten streak.
Before coming to Glenvar, Jones coached the girls’ team at Salem High School for 18 years. He led the Spartans to a 269-72-30 record and won the state title in 2003 along with making seven final four appearances and two state runner-ups. His girls also won seven district championships and five regional titles. His overall VHSL career coaching record is now 367-75-32.
In addition to Fisher the Highlanders had five other boys on the all-state first team. Four seniors on the team are forward Wesley Feliciano, midfielder Aidan Hylton, defender Jake Williams and goalie Grayson Shepherd. Tyler Curfiss, a junior, also made the first team on defense.
The Glenvar girls had three first team selections in Class 2. Senior Davin Tate made it at midfield and senior Brooke Smyth is a first team all-state defender. Camryn Stevens, a freshman, made first team at forward. Stevens is the only freshman and one of just four non-seniors to make first team all-state.
Glenvar also had two girls make the second team All-Class 2, both underclassmen. Junior Sophie Childers was second team on defense and Maddie Frackelton, a sophomore, is the second team goalie.
Annabelle Simmons of Poquoson is the Class 2 state Player of the Year and Islanders’ coach Jeff Imgrund is the state Coach of the Year. Poquoson beat Glenvar in the state semifinal, 2-0, then went on to win the Class 2 state championship.
