The Glenvar boys’ basketball team will have their hands full as they host Floyd County on Friday and then play at Martinsville next Tuesday. Floyd comes into the week at 11-1 and Martinsville is 11-3 and the only team to beat Floyd this season.
The Highlanders were 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the Three Rivers District after splitting two games last week. Glenvar was at William Byrd on Wednesday of this week but results were too late for publication.
Glenvar had a tough back-to-back on Thursday and Friday last week, opening with a 75-66 loss to Martinsville at home. Parker Doolan led the Highlanders with 19 points, Jax Bolling had 11 and James Housh scored 10 and had a big fourth quarter to keep the Highlanders close.
“Another close district loss, this time to arguably the best team in AA,” said Glenvar coach Hank Luton. “Love how our guys competed and had a shot inside of two minutes to win the game. Martinsville is athletic, and well coached.”
The Highlanders had to turn around and get on the bus to Stuart less than 24 hours later for a game against Patrick County. Doolan scored 26 as Glenvar returned with a well-earned 63-53 win. Bolling had 11, all in the second quarter.
“Parker shot the ball,” said Luton. “Good district win on the road. Always tough to play back-to-back and Patrick is much improved. Proud of the defensive effort despite a ton of foul trouble. Guys are competing.”
