The undefeated Glenvar High volleyball team will have a first round bye when the Region 2C tournament begins next Tuesday, November 1. Glenvar will be home throughout the regional as long as the Highlanders keep winning.
After Tuesday’s first round Glenvar will host a quarterfinal match a week from tonight, on November 3rd. The Region 2C semifinals and finals are at Glenvar on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 8 and 9.
The girls finish up the regular season tonight with a home match against Radford. The Highlanders will be trying to finish the regular season 20-0 after winning a “Senior Night” match over Floyd County on Tuesday at GHS. Seniors honored included Sydney Loder, Hannah Hylton, Rhyan Harris, Cara Butler, and Claire Griffith. In the past three seasons these girls have a record of 54-4 and they’re not done yet.
“They’re an amazing group of girls,” said Glenvar coach Mark Rohrback.
The Highlanders won their Senior Night match over Floyd in three sets, 25-6, 25-14 and 25-15. All five seniors had a good night as Griffith had 12 kills and three aces, Hylton had 11 kills and 16 digs, Butler had five aces and seven digs, Loder had six kills and four aces ad Harris had six kills and six blocks.
Tuesday’s win followed a three set win at Alleghany last Thursday, 25-8, 25-4 and 25-8. Against Alleghany, Griffith had 13 kills and two aces, Hylton had 11 kills and seven aces, Butler had 11 digs, Natalie McMahon had six kills and Audrey Conner had 35 assists.
“Everyone played in the match and contributed to the win,” said Rohrback. “I was extremely pleased with our focus level in our last regular season road match. As a team, we had 20 aces and only three service errors. We also only made four kills errors. We played very clean, focused ball.”
