Cody Alexander pitched six and a third strong innings as the Glenvar baseball team picked up their first win of the season Monday. The Highlanders took a 3-1 win over the host Vikings at Northside.

Alexander allowed just four hits while striking out seven to pick up the win. Ryan Butler retired the last two outs to earn the save.

Offensively, Logan Lucas had a two run double to give the Highlanders a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Northside got one back, but Hunter Phlegar tripled in Trip Adams for some insurance and Alexander took care of the rest. Lucas had two hits for the game.

The Highlanders were at Galax last Friday, where they took a 10-5 loss to the Maroon Tide. Phlegar got the start in this one and pitched four and a third innings, allowing six runs to take the loss. Butler pitched one inning and Lucas got the last two outs in the sevent.

The Highlanders sputtered on offense in Galax, fanning a dozen times and being held to four hits. Adams was one for three with two runs batted in.

The Highlanders were scheduled to play at Covington Wednesday, but results were too late for publication. Today Glenvar is back home to host Galax in the last game before spring break.
