The Glenvar baseball team is on a roll. The Highlanders took a 22-4 win over Patrick Henry in Roanoke Monday for their sixth win in a row.
It’s been a good stretch for Glenvar. In four of the six wins they’ve scored double figure runs and in the other two their pitchers tossed shutouts. Glenvar has outscored the opposition 67-17 over that stretch against three district opponents, a Class 3 team and two wins against Class 5 PH.
“We’ve been playing some good baseball,” said Glenvar coach Jeremy Cromer. “We have a young team but they’ve really come together.”
Glenvar hosted Patrick Henry last Wednesday and took a 14-1 win. Cale Vaughan, Evan Johnson and Easton Quesenberry had two hits each and freshman John Deel pitched five innings, allowing one earned run.
Last Thursday at Patrick County the Highlanders beat up on district rival Patrick County, 16-5. Jake Franklin was the star of this one with a grand slam home run and another blast with the bases loaded that hit the fence. He finished with three hits and six runs batted in while Vaughan and Cam Feazell also had three hits. Vaughan pitched five innings for the win with Gray Hutchison going the last two.
On Monday the Highlanders returned the trip to PH and routed the Patriots, 22-4. Everyone on the team got in the game as Glenvar struck for 20 hits. Feazell and Johnson had four each and sophomore Feazell had a home run and nearly a second that was just foul. Cam also pitched the first four innings and struck out six to pick up the win.
Glenvar, now 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the district, is back on the home diamond Friday to host Floyd County in a Three Rivers game. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:15 pm after the field is named in honor of former coach Larry Wood in a 5 pm dedication ceremony.
