The Glenvar soccer boys expected Magna Vista to give them their toughest challenge to date last week but the Highlanders came up big. Glenvar took a 5-0 win over the Warriors at Highlander Stadium to remain undefeated at 11-0. Glenvar jumped on top early when Kian Fisher knocked home a long Cooper Mullins throw-in. Mullins then connected with Bryce King on the next goal midway through the first half off another long throw to give the Highlanders a 2-0 lead at halftime. Tyler Curfiss made it 3-0 five minutes into the second half as Mullins was credited with the assist again. Then, nine minutes later, Mullins would head a King corner kick in to make it 4-0, and Fisher then found the back of the net again off a Mullins assist eight minutes later to close out the scoring.

Grayson Shepherd recorded his eighth shutout in the net with seven saves. “I thought we played a really solid game from start to finish,” said Glenvar coach Josh Jones. “Grayson made some good saves in the net for us and we tracked really well defensively as a team, which limited their options. We also executed our set pieces well to help us earn the victory.” The loss was just the second of the season for Class 3 Magna Vista, who fell to 8-2-1. The Highlanders, who won the 2023 Class 2 championship, haven’t lost a game in over a year. Their last loss was a 2-1 defeat to Salem on April 7, 2023.

The Highlanders beat Salem in the second meeting of the 2023 season and the Spartans opted out of the rivalry shortly thereafter. Glenvar was scheduled to put their unbeaten record on the line Wednesday with a home game against James River. It will be the first of three home games with Radford due in Friday and Carroll County next Tuesday for the last home game of the regular season. That will be “Senior Night,” and it certainly won’t be the last home game of the spring as the Highlanders are certain to host some games in the post-season
