The Glenvar High baseball, softball and both soccer teams will begin Region 2C play tonight and all four teams will be home.
The Glenvar baseball, softball and girls’ and boys’ soccer teams have all clinched home field games for the tournament’s opening round. The last to do so was the boys’ soccer team, who won at Floyd Tuesday, 3-1, to clinch a regional home game. Nathan Booth scored twice for the Highlanders and Gavin Curfiss had the other goal.
Region 2C tournament games are scheduled for tonight, Monday, Wednesday and Friday of next week. The higher seeds will host the first two rounds with designated sites for the semifinals and finals next week. The soccer teams will play the semis and finals at the Smith River Complex while the baseball tournament is at Kiwanis Field in Salem and the softball tournament is at the Botetourt Sports Complex.
In tennis the Glenvar girls beat Nelson County, 5-4, in their regional match Tuesday at Virginia Tech. Hannah Yando, Adelia Mau and Alex Saunders won their singles matches, while the team of Hannah Green and Mary Katherine Holliday and the team of Adelia Mau and Alex Saunders won their doubles match.
“Best match they played all season,” said coach Dale Clark.
Glenvar advanced to the next round where the Highlanders were eliminated by Radford, 9-0.
The boys played Monday at Virginia Tech and were eliminated by Narrows, 5-2. Blake Bowers and Seth Crouch won for the Highlanders.
“It was a lot closer than the score indicates,” said coach Mark Rohrback.
The Highlanders ended the season at 8-7. Region singles and doubles are at Tech Wednesday through Friday.
