The Roanoke College baseball season came to an end last weekend in Lynchburg as the host University of Lynchburg team beat the Maroons two in a row in a best-of-three to open the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament.
The Maroons came in as the eighth seed and Lynchburg is the top seed in the tournament, which continues this weekend. The Maroons lost 16-6 on Friday and 14-4 on Sunday to finish the season at 23-18.
Facing elimination on Sunday, the Maroons fell behind quickly as Lynchburg scored runs in each of the first five innings. Hector Hetzel and Noah Donaho both had multi-hit games for RC with two each. Hecter Orozco, Hayden Giordano and Hetzel drove in runs. Donaho had two hits, including a home run, in Friday’s game but again the Maroons fell behind early as the Hornets scored six first inning runs.
Shenandoah, Randolph-Macon and Bridgewater also advanced to this weekend’s double elimination ODAC tournament at Capital One Park in Tysons, VA.
