Gerald Linden “Lynn” Hurst, 65, of Roanoke, Va., passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 13, 2025.

Lynn was born on December 6, 1959, in Alexandria, Va., but lived most of his life in Roanoke. He spent many years working in advertising at local newspapers, including the Roanoke Times, the Bedford Bulletin, the Vinton Messenger, and, most recently, the Salem Times Register as General and Advertising Manager.

He loved riding his motorcycle in the mountains, fishing on Smith Mountain Lake in his boat, the taste of an ice-cold Coors Light, and, above all, his family.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Linden and Ruth Hurst of Pearisburg, Va.; his maternal grandparents, Edd Thomas and Viola Virginia Fuller of Speedway, WV; his beloved mother, Patsy Hurst Neely of Roanoke, Va.; and his special companion, Beanie.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Hurst of Roanoke; his daughter, Allison Hurst (Giulio) of Chicago, Ill.; his father, Wayne Hurst (Peggy) of Haymarket, Va.; his brothers, Tim Hurst of Roanoke, Christopher Hurst (Jennifer) of Haymarket, Va., and Thomas Hurst of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his close friend, David Marshall of Lignum, Va.; and many dear cousins.

A visitation was held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, and the funeral took place at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, both at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel, 627 Hardy Road, Vinton, VA 24179. Burial followed the funeral service at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens, 7271 Cloverdale Road, Cloverdale, VA 24019. Condolences may be shared with his family at www.Oakeys.com.

Arrangements by Oakey’s Funeral Service – Vinton Chapel, Vinton, VA (540) 982-2221.
