James Haywood Williams, 90, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025. He was born and raised in northwest Roanoke, son to John T. and Erma Williams.

He served in the Virginia National Guard for eight years. Haywood was an honest and hard-working man who was employed for 40 years with the Kroger Warehouse in Salem, where they called him, “Willie”. He was an avid sports fan and always enjoyed family time, camping, and fishing. He was a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church in Salem.

Haywood was totally dedicated to his wife of 70 years, Betty Forbes Williams, who preceded him in death. He was devoted to and survived by his three children, Becky Gibson (“Gibby”, Mike), Larry Williams (Donna) and Mark Williams (Karin). He is also survived by four grandchildren, Ellen Bishop (Keith), Hayley Haynes (Matt), Brian Williams (Melinda), and Valerie Thomas (Matthew). His 13 great-grandchildren are also left to cherish his memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Oakey’s North Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Challenger Little League Baseball VA, District 12 (CLLB – VA D12), P.O. Box 1903, Salem, VA 24153. Condolences may be shared with family at www.Oakeys.com.
