Unearth a story at the Salem Public Library with our exciting Summer Reading Program, June 1-July 31st. All ages may join in on the fun with reading challenges for adults(ages+18) and for kids and teens. Sign up now on salemva.beanstack.org and get a free book at the Salem Public Library. Complete the challenges to earn tickets for the weekly drawing for fun prizes.

June Activities for Kids

Wednesdays, June 3, 10, 17, 24; 11am. Ages 0-5. Story Explorers. Create lifelong readers! Join us for stories, songs, and boisterous fun as we share our love of books with your child. Register at salemva.libcal.com

Wednesdays, June 3, 10, 17, 24, 3:15-4:15pm. Barks & Books. Grades 1-5; must be 6 years old to attend. Read with a therapy dog! These mellow dogs love books and can’t wait to listen to you read. Everyone who signs up gets at least 10 minutes to read with a dog. You can bring your own book or pick one out when you arrive! Register at salemva.libcal.com

Thursdays, June 4, 11, 18, 25; 10:15am. Book Babies. Special Storytime designed especially for infants and crawlers. Register at salemva.libcal.com

Saturday, June 6, Pre-K to 6th grade. 11am. Stories & Succulents in the Garden. Join our staff for a story in the garden as well as the option to pot and take home your very own succulent! Please note: this activity will involve dirt, so please wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy. In case of rain, the event will move indoors. Please register at salemva.libcal.com so we have enough supplies.

Friday, June 12, 10am. Mill Mountain Theatre’s Pete the Cat: The Musical. Bring a blanket for the Library Lawn. Based on the popular series. This show will take place under a tent on library lawn. Bring a blanket to sit on!

Teen Program: Spell Jammer Academy: Session 1

Friday, June 12, 2pm. Grades 8-12. Explore new worlds, make friends (or enemies), and engage in combat! This is the first session of Salem’s summer Dungeons & Dragons campaign. Use the character made in session 0 or, if you missed it, you will be given a character to play. No previous gaming experience required. Open to grades 8-12. Register at salemva.libcal.com

Friday Mornings, 10am-noon. What the Tech? Need computer, e-reader, iPad, or smartphone help? Want a quick tutorial on our new online catalog? Stop by with your device or question!

Tuesday, June 9, 10am-4pm. The DMV Connect. The DMV is coming to you in the meeting room at the Salem Public Library. Walk Ins Only. Closed for lunch 12:30-1:30pm.

Tuesday, June 9, 6:30pm. True Crime Book Club. A book club to discuss cold cases and old crimes. This month we are reading “Too Young to Kill” by M. William Phelps, the true story of a bullied teenager and her murder by her peers.

Thursday, June 11, 2pm. Afternoon Games for Adults-It’s Feud Time. Think you know what most people would say? Join us for Feud Time, a lively, survey-style game where teams compete to guess the most popular answers to fun and quirky questions. No trivia expertise needed—just good instincts and a sense of humor! Bring your friends or join a team and get ready for laughs and a little friendly competition.

Monday, June 15, 2026, 11am. Summer Financial Literacy Series: Part 2 of 4 – Social Security & Medicare Planning with Jamie Lynn Byram, Registered Social Security Analyst.
