Kroger enhances new shopping technology in Roanoke and New River Valleys

~ Customers check out even faster ~

Kroger’s Mid-Atlantic Division has enhanced the Scan, Bag, Go technology to enable shoppers to save more time.

Customers using the Kroger mobile app now pay for their groceries on their phone. They do not use self-checkout.

“This change saves our customers even more time and increases convenience,” said Allison McGee, corporate affairs manager of the Mid-Atlantic Division.

Customers use their phone with the Scan, Bag, Go app to scan products as they shop. They bag them as they shop and pay using their phone when they are finished, bypassing lines completely. They can use their credit card on file or insert a new credit card.

Kroger’s Scan, Bag, Go service is available at the Bonsack store in Roanoke County and University City Kroger in Blacksburg. The service will be added at other stores.

Kroger has three Scan, Bag, Go team members in stores to assist customers. One is located at the kiosk where a video explains how Scan, Bag, Go works. Another is near the store’s secondary entrance, and the third team member is in the produce department.

The scanner allows customers to view and download digital coupons, keep a running total of their order and view current sales. A team member applies paper coupons.

The store has specially designed scales in the produce department for items that must be weighed.

Customers are encouraged to bring and use their own reusable bags to shop. Kroger also provides bags at the kiosk.

Scan, Bag, Go is another option for customers to shop, alongside online ordering, traditional checkout lanes and home delivery.

Kroger’s in-house research and development team invented and built the Scan, Bag, Go technology.
