Landmark radio station towers from WSLC & Q99 started coming down Tuesday morning. Forest Lawn, Carlton Park and Parkdale Manor neighbors watched crews begin taking the towers, which were not being used.
The land was rezoned last year for 171 townhomes.
Lights went out Monday and transmission wires were removed that same day. Several neighbors shot videos of one or more of the towers being pulled down and pieces being carted away in large trucks.
Last year neighbor Becky Vest Thomas started a private neighborhood Facebook page, WSLC & Q99, to keep the neighborhood informed on what is going on.
When the rezoning application by ABoone & Co. went before Salem City Council, the council chambers were packed with people who live in the area. They voiced concerns about traffic, safety of walking along Newman and other local streets, density of housing, construction disruption and other matters.
