Dear fellow Salem voters:
I attended the forum sponsored by the Salem Kiwanis Club where the candidates for Salem City Council expressed their reasons for running and answered questions from the moderator. I am grateful that we have citizens who want to represent us, and I was impressed by what all the candidates had to say.
One of the candidates is running for reelection, and I think that any of the others, over time, could make a good council member.
But there is only one candidate who can give us the immediate benefit of long-range perspective and experience: Mark Henrickson.
Mark is a member of the City Planning Commission. He is a lifelong resident of Salem who has been a successful builder. Mark doesn’t need to be a council member to advance his career, and he is politically independent.
Salem is facing immediate challenges to the use of its revenues for financing its services and maintaining its infrastructure. We need Mark’s long-term view, business know-how, and balanced judgment to evaluate how best to meet those challenges.
Please vote for Mark Henrickson.
