Congressman Ben Cline is busy trying to put lipstick on a pig as his latest constituent missive touts President Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” that President Trump wants passed in the Senate with “few changes” by July 4.
This bill is a giant transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich with regressive tax cuts that cut safety nets like Medicaid and Snap (food stamps). It robs our future by eliminating climate-related tax credits although America is plagued by climate-related disasters while Trump also wants states to assume FEMA’s role. It transfers wealth from the young to the old by putting this $4 trillion bill on the deficit at a time when high interest payments on the debt is the second highest national budget expenditure. Debt payment exceeds defense spending which Trump wants to raise to $1 trillion although he campaigned on cutting the military budget in half.
The Senate should take a chainsaw to this abomination and start from scratch on a bill that helps working families and removes massive tax breaks and corporate welfare to the rich. That would help fulfill Trump’s campaign promises to cut costs for working Americans that voters were persuaded they voted for in Trump’s massive bait and switch.
Our elected leaders appear oblivious to the real threat of America’s ballooning debt for a bill that removes the safety net for working Americans while leaving no billionaire behind.
On Saturday, Trump is hosting a military parade in our capitol on his birthday costing $45 million at a time when service members, veterans and their families are being harmed by cuts to federal programs and services. Check out the Economic Policy Institute’s report on “100 days, 100 ways Trump has hurt workers.”
Trump has sent National Guard and mobilized Marines to L.A. protests. Common Cause is hosting a “No Kings Day—a Nationwide day of defiance” on Saturday, June 14 in opposition to Trump’s parade and autoocratic vision. American patriots are peacefully upholding their first amendment rights by using them – precious rights that under attack.
