The Andrew Lewis Middle School eighth grade football team ran its record to 3-0 with two shutout wins in the past week. The Wolverines beat Cave Spring last Thursday and Christiansburg on Monday of this week, both on the road.
Lewis took a 28-0 shutout victory over Cave Spring Middle in south Roanoke County last week. The defense dominated the game, limiting the Squires to just two first downs and forcing an interception by safety Maclin Hale. The Wolverines forced three punts and on special teams the kickoff team recovered an onside kick. Junior Crawford, Josh Elliott, Alden Sowers, CJ Goens, Graham Pollard, Landynn Booth, Tyrstan Gaines, Kaden Hughes and Mayson Henderson all performed well on the defensive side.
The offense was led by the passing of Hale and the receiving of Brower, as they led the team to 22 first half points. Elliott, Henderson, Pollard and Crawford led the rushing attack.
On Monday night Lewis shut out the middle school Blue Demons in Christiansburg, 42-0. Hale and Brower proved to be a formidable combination once again and Lewis also had a good ground game with Booth, Henderson, Elliott, Pollard, Crawford, Brycen Wright and Liam Park.
The Lewis defense had another big game, allowing the Demons just one first down. Hale had a “pick six” and Goens also had an interception. Crawford was tough on the defensive line and Booth played well in the secondary.
The Lewis seventh grade team lost a close game to Shawsville Middle School, 8-6, last week to run their record to 1-1. Their next game was scheduled to be played on Wednesday of this week against Glenvar Middle.
The eighth grade team is at home today, Thursday, for a 5 p.m. game with William Fleming.
