Salem’s Caleb Lingenfelter participated in the Coastal Plain League All-Star game on July 7. The event was hosted by the Macon Bacon at Luther Williams Field in Macon, GA.
The CPL East All-Stars were the visitors while the CPL West All-Stars were the home team for the game. Lingenfelter, a righthanded pitcher, hurled a scoreless fourth inning for the East team. He struck out three straight after allowing a single and a walk to put two runners on base. The East ended up winning the game, 6-0.
Caleb was a pitcher on the 2019 Salem High Class 4 state championship team. He pitched for Roanoke College and last season was a member of the Liberty University baseball team as he recovered from Tommy John surgery.
This summer Lingenfelter is pitching for the Peninsula Pilots in the wooden bat Coastal Plain League. He’s having an outstanding season with a 1.44 earned run average. He’s struck out 17 batters in 19 innings while walking five and allowing just eight hits. He’s pitched in six games with five starts.
Lingenfelter has a 1-0 record but the Pilots have won four other games in which he’s started. In those four games Caleb allowed a total of two earned runs but was relieved before pitching the required five innings to qualify for the win.
The team has 25 pitchers on the roster and the starter rarely goes more than three or four innings so other pitchers can get some work. The Pilots are 24-10 on the season.
The Coastal Plain League is a 14 team league with teams in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. The Peninsula team is located in Hampton and Virginia also has teams in Martinsville and Colonial Heights.
