Bonnie Lynn Altizer Lucas passed away peacefully at her home in Salem, VA, on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Married to David P. Lucas for fifty years, she was a devoted wife and proud mother of two wonderful sons, Jonathan “Jon” Lucas of Asheville, NC, and Grayson Lucas of Shawsville, VA.
A cancer survivor of 17 years, Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Shirley M. and Ocie S. Altizer of Christiansburg, VA; and two siblings, Donald L. Altizer and Janet A. Shelton. She is survived by a sister, Sandra A. White of Dobson, NC, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bonnie had several friends who meant a lot to her over the years. Linda, Dawn, Sandra, Bob, and Ruth, and her husband’s Auburn High School classmates. These people all made her life better, and she was thankful for the kindness they showed her and the time she was able to spend with them.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home located in Salem, VA. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 23, 2025, from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m., with the service starting at 2 p.m. in the funeral home’s chapel. A private interment at the Lucas Family Cemetery will take place at a later date.
