The Roanoke College men’s soccer team was undefeated after three games when they won their home opener against Brevard last Saturday, but the Maroons lost to Methodist on Tuesday, 1-0, in North Carolina.
Against Brevard the Maroons opened the scoring in the seventh minute as Ryan Pidgeon sent a ball on the ground into the middle from the left side of the box. The ball found an on-running Carter Laatsch who finished the ball just past the keeper.
In the 38th minute, Parker Laatsch made a run down the right wing and put a low ball into the box that ended up at the foot of Cameron Viator. Viator took a touch and put the bouncing ball into the lower left corner to double the advantage.
Brevard opened the scoring in the second half, earning one back off a free kick just outside the box, but the Maroons answered when Laatsch picked off an errant pass by Brevard about 20 yards out from goal. He then took his open space and slotted home a left footed shot into the bottom right corner from the top of the box in the 72nd minute to make it 3-1.
About two minutes later Laatsch completed a hat trick with his third goal of the day for the 4-1 final.
This Friday the Maroons are in Rocky Mount, NC for a game against North Carolina Wesleyan University.
