Maroon softball team has two with EMU at Moyer Saturday

The Roanoke College softball team will host Eastern Mennonite for a Saturday afternoon “Senior Day” doubleheader on Saturday at the James I. Moyer Complex. The first game is at 1 pm with the second to follow at approximately 3 pm.

The Maroons are 21-12  after sweeping a doubleheader from Bridgewater in Salem Tuesday, 3-2 and 9-1.  In the opener Roanoke scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and held on for the win. Teresa Wagner picked up the win, improving her record to 7-4, and Emily Salsberry pitched an inning and a third for the save.

In the nightcap Taylor Carter was three-for-four and Ruthie Williams picked up the win on the mound, improving to 7-1 on the season. Katie Smith had three runs batted in.

Last weekend in Norfolk Virginia Wesleyan swept the Maroons, 3-2 and 8-0, in an ODAC doubleheader. In the first game the Marlins scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a walk off win. Wagner took the loss after giving up three runs off three hits in 6.1 innings.

In the nighcap Rachel Guilliams went 1-for-1 and Taylor Slate went 1-for-2 for the Maroons. Taylor Asimakopoulos dropped to 1-5 on the mound, giving up eight runs off six hits in 2.1 innings. Courtney Wright of the Marlins improved  to 13-0, giving up only two hits in five innings.
