The Roanoke College women led the top-ranked soccer team in Division III before Christopher-Newport rallied for a 2-1 win last Wednesday, September 28, at Kerr Stadium on the RC campus.
MC Petrucelli scored in the 24th minute to put the Maroon women ahead 1-0 off an assist from Luren Rubino. RC led 1-0 at the half only to have the Captains score twice in the second half to stave off the upset bid.
The Maroons are now 5-4 on the season and Petrucelli has scored in each of the last three games. Carrington Lippi played all 90 minutes in goal for Roanoke.
The Maroons were scheduled to play at Randolph College in Lynchburg Wednesday but results were too late for publication. They’ll be in Danville to take on Averett University at 11 am Saturday, then return to host Washington & Lee next Wednesday, October 12, at 7 pm.
