The Roanoke College Cross Country team returned to action at the Virginia Tech Alumni Meet in Blacksburg last Friday night.
The Maroons raced in a competitive field that included Florida State, Ohio, host Virginia Tech, Akron, East Tennessee State, Morehead State, Lynchburg, Washington and Lee, VMI, King, Hollins, Sweet Briar and Ferrum.
Jennifer Barthol finished atop the leader board for the Maroons in the Women’s 6K with a time of 24:47.1 for a 69th place. Ellen Bauer and Alexis Mattson followed right behind, crossing the finish line at 25:31.4 and 25:43.8, respectively.
As a team, the women took 10th and the men finished ninth.
In the men’s 8K, Howard Daniels led RC with a time of 27:12.6, earning 76th place. Tyler Barrett crossed just 16 seconds later in 78th place with a time of 27:28.9. Rookie Devyn Heron took 85th with a time of 27:46.6 and Nathaniel Willis rounded out the top-finishes in 100th place with a time of 28:19.7.
Militsa Mircheva of Florida State won the women’s race finishing in 20:45.0 while Willy Fink, a VT Alumni, took the men’s title with a time of 24:48.0.
Roanoke is back in action on Friday, Sept. 29, at the Paul Short Run on the campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.
