
The Roanoke College football team swept the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Football Players of the Week awards for the week of Sept. 27. The Maroons rolled to a 52-0 non-conference win at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Saturday to move to 3-0 on the year.
Offensive Player of the Week Linwood Johnson, a sophomore quarterback, had a game for the ages against the Bison. He only saw action in the first half, but connected on 19-of-20 passes for 275 yards and four touchdowns and ran in another score. Johnson’s 95 percent completion percentage was third-best in ODAC history with at least 15 pass attempts.
Junior linebacker Ethan Mapstone earned the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week honor. He made six tackles, including one for loss as the Roanoke defense recorded a shutout, holding the Bison to -5 rushing yards on 25 carries. For the season, Mapstone has a team-best 16 tackles, including 13 solos.
Junior kicker Ethan Cyr was named the ODAC Special Teams Player of the Week. He nailed a 46-yard field goal with 7:40 left, the longest made field goal in program history since the program was restarted in 2024. Cyr was also a perfect 7-for-7 on extra point attempts and had three touchbacks on his kickoffs.
The Maroons open ODAC play Saturday at Guilford College at 1 p.m.
