Nate Yetzer is building a strong wrestling team at Roanoke College.

The Roanoke College wrestling team will have a busy week as the Maroons open their conference schedule tonight, then host a big tournament on Sunday.
The Maroons will be in Lexington tonight for a dual meet with Washington & Lee. It will be the Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener for both teams, with the first bout scheduled for 7 pm.
On Sunday the Maroons will host the 2022 Star City Classic at the Cregger Center. The event is sponsored by the United States Marine Corps.
Last weekend the Maroons wrestled in the Cougar Classic at Averett University in Danville, VA. After just his second tournament as a Maroon, Roanoke wrestler Morgan Robinson was named the ODAC Light Wrestler of the Week after he claimed the 141 lbs. title. He went a perfect 5-0 on the day to win the title. Morgan won four of his five matches by fall, including the title match.
In all Roanoke saw 21 wrestlers reach the podium of their weight class, led by four titles at 125 lbs., 141 lbs., 165 lbs., and 197 lbs. In addition to Robinson, the 141 champ, others who topped their weight class included Josh Noble at 125, David Reid at 165 and Cam Cavins at 197.
Averett University is picked to win the ODAC in the 2022-23 Preseason Coaches’ Poll as released by the conference office. The Cougars received four first-place votes along with 31 points. Right behind them Washington and Lee received 30 points and the final three first-place votes.
The Maroons, in just their second season of competition, are picked third with 27 points with Coach Nate Yetzer’s former team, Ferrum, picked fourth with 24 points.
