The Salem High boys saw their lacrosse season come to an end Tuesday with a 17-7 loss at Midlothian. The game was a 4A South Region semifinal, and Salem came up one win short of making the state tournament with the loss.

“They were good and we couldn’t get anything going,” said Salem coach Daniel Dyer.

Salem was coming off an 18-4 win over Jefferson Forest at Salem High last Friday. The Spartans were impressive in dominating the Cavaliers, as Conference Player of the Year Evan McMillan had six goals and an assist. Anthony Migliarese and Will Poldiak had four goals each and Zach Mason had three. Trent Cheyney took care of time of possession with 10 winning faceoffs and seven ground balls and Peyton Woodward was solid in goal.

“We knew we had to start fast and play with a lot of energy,” said Dyer. “The last time we played them we got down early and struggled to catch back up. This time we were able to possess the ball with Trent Cheyney winning faceoffs and keep it away from Jefferson Forest. It was one of the more wholesome games we have played this year. We were able to play as a team on offense and defense.”

Salem finished the season with a 13-5 record. They’ll graduate seniors Migliarese, Poldiak, Mac George and Ben Galbreath.

“I’m proud our seniors,” said Dyer. “We had a good and we have a lot of guys coming back.”
