PLATZ, Margaret G.

Margaret Giles Platz, 97, of Blue Ridge, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Platz; and sister, Rosalie Dooley.

Surviving is her daughter, Kathy Platz and friend, Merle; son, Bobby Platz and wife, Tina; grandson, Jay Platz and wife, Mary; granddaughter, Danielle Platz; and a niece, Lynn Dooley.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, at Oakey’s East Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.oakeys.com.

 

WIMBERLEY, Darlene S.

Valarie Darlene Simmons Wimberley, of Zephyrhills, Fla., passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017, with her beloved husband of 23 years at her side.

Darlene was born on February 2, 1959 in Clifton Forge, and spent her formative years in Eagle Rock, ultimately graduating from James River High School. After attending college, Darlene relocated to Florida, where she met the love of her life, James. The two later married and were blessed with a daughter, Ashley, and son, Dallas, who were both the light of her life.

Darlene is survived by her husband and children, as well as her parents, Phyllis Reynolds and Donald Simmons; her stepmother, Robin Simmons; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Deanna and James Stepp and Elizabeth and Rick Duncan; her brother and sister-in-law, David and Cari Simmons; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, James Reynolds.

At 19 years old, Darlene had her first cancer diagnosis, since that time she battled different forms of the disease, ultimately succumbing to a recurrence of breast cancer. According to Darlene’s wishes, her body has been cremated.

A celebration of Darlene’s life will be held at Iron Gate United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 6, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider memorial contributions to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
