Local golfers had a big day as Glenvar High grad Nick Peters and Salem High grad Andrew Butts finished fifth and sixth to lead Roanoke College to a fourth-place team finish at the Roanoke Invitational at Roanoke Country Club last week.

Peters finished the one day, 36 hole event with a 77-74-151 to place fifth overall. Butts was one stroke behind after carding a 74-78-152, placing him in a four-way tie for sixth-place.

Nicklaus Norris of RC finished with a 79-85-161 to finish 21st, while Daniel Johnson was 27th with a  83-81-164.

Bruce Shober of Hampden-Sydney finished first overall with a 72-73-145, while his teammate Jamie Agnew was second after carding a 73-74-147.  The duo helped H-SC to the overall team win with a two round score of 297-296-593, 19 shots better than Bridgewater.

Roanoke is back on the links Sunday when the Maroons tee off in the first day of the three round ODAC Championship at Wintergreen Resort.
