The Salem RidgeYaks are back home this week to host the Fayetteville Woodpeckers for a four game series. The Woodpeckers are a farm team of the Houston Astros, and they’ll be here until Sunday with 6:35 pm starts through Saturday followed by a 4:05 pm matinee on Sunday.
Salem is coming off a six game series in Wilson that saw them go 1-5. That dropped the Yaks to 24-33 and 17 games behind the first place Fredricksburg Nationals in the Carolina League’s North Division. The second half of the Carolina League split season is scheduled to begin on Thursday of next week.
Through Monday catcher Andruw Musett is leading the current team in hitting with a .353 average over 34 at bats. Givian Sirvania, who has been with the team for a couple weeks, is hitting .300 with seven stolen bases and no caught stealings. Stanley Tucker, who was called up to Greenville and came down again is hitting .306 and Starlyn Nunez, who has been in Salem all season thus far, leads the team with eight home runs.
Salem has already had 27 different pitchers throw at least an inning for the RidgeYaks. Leighton Finley, Barrett Morgan and Myles Patton have three wins each for the Yaks.
After this week’s homestand the Yaks will head to Fredricksburg to begin a six game homestand next Tuesday, June 16.
