James L. Evans, 84, was set free from his earthly body on the Lord’s Day, February 26, 2017, with his bride of 62 years, Ellen S. Evans, by his side.

Jim’s family gives their sincere gratitude and thanks to the nurses and staff of the Community Living Center at the Mountain Home VA Medical Center, for their outstanding service to “the Professor” and other veterans in their care.

We could tell you that, in addition to being a loving husband, Jim is the adored father of Celeste (Bob) Gailey, Lisa (Bernie) Blankenship, and Eric (Joy) Evans. Also, Jim is loved by his grandchildren, Bethanie Jo and Evan Blankenship, Tess (Tyler) Evans-Shell, Noah and Eli Evans. Jim graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1950. Jim served in the Air Force as a pilot during the Korean War. Jim was also a Greek professor at Atlanta Christian College/Point University, earning the love, respect, and admiration of students and colleagues alike. Jim was a teacher, preacher, church planter, and the Executive Director of the European Evangelistic Society. We could also say that Jim loved and served the Lord Jesus all his life, bringing many into the Kingdom by his influence and through the efforts of those he taught. Jim sought to know God and to make Him known.

We could say all that, yet these things do not begin to describe this humble man of God nor his impact on those who knew him. Perhaps we should just say: He lived justly, loved mercy, and walked humbly with God.

Professor Jim was laid to rest in a family service on March 2, 2017, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with full military honors. The family invites all who were touched by Professor Jim Evans’ life to gather with us for a “Celebration of Life” on Saturday, March 18, at 11:00 AM, at the Lilburn Christian Church, 314 Arcado Rd NW, Lilburn, GA, 30047.
