The Glenvar volley- ball team saw their sea- son come to an end with a third loss to Radford last week. The Bobcats defeated the Highlanders in the Region 2C semi- finals, 25-18, 25-21 and 25-22 as Glenvar came up one win short of a trip to the state tournament.
“These girls are super- stars,” said Glenvar coach Mark Rohrback. “We turned a 7-14 season last year into an 18-4 and gave Radford everything they could handle in the Region Semi-finals. There were lead changes and tie scores in every set, and ultimately the match came down to their senior leadership and experience as they have a talented team with six seniors.”
Glenvar was led by Sophia Hammersley with eight kills and 14 digs. Emily Rohrback had 17 assists, 13 digs and a pair of aces while Macy McMahon had seven kills, 26 digs and two aces. Zella Hayes was high with 11 kills for the Highlanders.
Of Glenvar’s four losses three were to a very strong Radford team, who is senior heavy. The Highlanders had just two seniors this year, Hammersley and Addi Cockram, and a strong jayvee team. so the future looks good.
“We look forward to hearing about great accomplishments from our two awesome seniors and we’re very excited for the future of the pro- gram,” said Rohrback.
