The Roanoke Area Youth Softball Association(RAYSA) tournaments are being held this week with Roanoke Area Youth Baseball Association(RAYBA) tournaments scheduled to open next week. Salem and Glenvar all-star teams are represented in both.
The RAYSA tournaments are for 10U, 13U and 17U teams and are being held at the James I. Moyer Complex in Salem through Wednesday of this week with championship games at Darrell Shell Park in Roanoke County Thursday. All three tournaments are double elimination.
In the 10U tournament Salem and Glenvar both won opening round games on Sunday, with Salem defeating Franklin County and Glenvar topping South County-Emory. On Monday both lost, as Salem fell to Botetourt and Glenvar lost to North Roanoke. Both were hoping to stay alive in losers’ bracket games on Tuesday.
In the 13U tournament Salem won the first two, downing GSA and North Roanoke. The Salem girls were scheduled to play in the winners’ bracket final on Wednesday with the championship at Darrell Shell tonight.
In the 17U tournament Salem combined with Botetourt and was scheduled to open Tuesday against South County in a four-team tournament. Franklin County and Clifton Forge are the other two teams.
In baseball RAYBA tournaments for 10U and 12U all-star teams are next week at Green Hill Park. In the 10U tournament Salem will open next Tuesday against Botetourt at 8 pm. Glenvar gets a first round bye and will open Wednesday against the winner of a game between Vinton and North Roanoke.
In the 12U tournament Salem and North Roanoke open on Monday at 8 pm and the winner will play Glenvar on Tuesday at 8 pm. In both tournaments the championship games are scheduled for Saturday, June 21, with an “if game” on Sunday, June 22.
