The Roanoke men were third and the women were seventh among 16 schools competing at the NCAA D3 South Regional Preview hosted by the University of Lynchburg last Saturday. The meet was held at the Panorama Farm in Earlysville, Va.
The RC men tied Berry for third place with 108 points but won the tiebreaker with three of five runners finishing higher than Berry. Nathaniel Orban was the top finisher, placing second with a time of 25:44.0 behind only Lynchburg’s Ty Blair by one second. The remaining Maroons finished as follows: Parker Blosser in 15th, 26:42.8; Gabe Ramirez Hannon in 20th, 26:51.1; Elias Ammon in 40th, 27:50.4; and Aaron Massey in 45th, 28:01.4.
The women had five of the top 50 runners to finish seventh with a score of 166 points. Maya Herndon led the way for the Maroons, finishing 16th with a 24:10.8 time.
Riley Larimer, Sofia Conrey, Brooke Eichelberger, and Sadie Teer rounded out the scoring for Roanoke. Larimer placed 23rd at 24:52.2, Conrey placed 34th at 25:41.4, Eichelberger placed 48th at 26:34.0, and Teer finished 50th at 26:45.9.
The Maroons will next travel to Charlotte, N.C., to compete at the Royals Cross Country Challenge hosted by Queens on Oct. 9.
