The Roanoke College Athletic Hall of Fame inducted the Class of 2024
last Friday as part of the college Alumni Weekend festitities. This year’s class
includes Jeff Keating, Leona Rainey, James Pennix and Katlyn Scarlett.
Keating, from the Class of 2012, earned second-team USILA All-American
honors as a senior in addition to first-team All-ODAC accolades. That year
he ranked second in the ODAC in assists and was second on the team with 39
goals. Keating led the Maroons with 74 points, also placing him second in the
ODAC. He participated in USILA North/South Senior game and earned Roanoke
College’s co-Male Athlete of the Year for the 2012-13 academic year.
Jeff joins his brother, Chris Keating ’06, in the Hall of Fame. Chris is a 2016
inductee.
Rainey, Class of ’13, earned NFCA All-American honors in 2011 and 2012.
She led Maroons to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances (2012-13),
including a fourth-place finish in the national championship series in 2012. She
led Maroons to the ODAC Championship in 2012.
A four-time NFCA All-South Atlantic Region selection, Rainey earned firstteam honors three-straight years (2011-13). A four-time first-team All-ODAC
honoree (2010-13), she was the ODAC and programs’ all-time stolen bases leader
at the time of her graduation. Rainey was the 2010 ODAC Rookie of the Year.
Rainey also earned Roanoke College’s co-Female Athlete of the Year for the
2012-13 school year.
Pennix, class of ’88, finished his basketball career at RC with 1,282 points,
which ranked in the top 20 all-time for many years. He is one of two Maroons to
ever post 1,000 points and be ranked in the top-10 in career rebounds (719), steals
(171) and assists (254).
Pennix was a first-team All-ODAC selection as a sophomore (1986) and second-team as a senior (1988). He led the Maroons to a four-year record of 72-43;
33-23 in the ODAC, with three ODAC Tournament Championships and three
NCAA Appearances.
Pennix currently serves as Roanoke’s Vice President for Enrollment
Management.
Scarlett, Class of ’09, took home second-team lacrosse All-American honors
in 2007 after earning ODAC Player of the Year accolades and a spot on the allregion first team. A goalie, Katlyn was ranked second all-time in program history
for career saves at the time of her graduation.
Scarlett was an All-ODAC first-team honoree in 2007 and 2009 and secondteam in 2006 and 2008. In 2009 she again grabbed first-team all-region honors
and was just one of two goalies in the nation to play in the North South Senior
All Star Game for Division III.
