The Roanoke College men’s lacrosse team lost a shootout in Lynchburg last Saturday night. The host University of Lynchburg came from behind to pull out a 19-18 win over the Maroons at Shellenberger Field.

The Maroons led for the vast majority of the game but the Hornets, ranked 13th this week in Division III, rallied for a 19-18. Down 16-15 in the fourth quarter, the Hornets used a 4-0 run to go ahead 19-16 with 4:53 left.

RC’s Wyatt Whitlow scored at 2:13 and Julian Kammerman netted his sixth with 51 ticks left on the clock before Lynchburg won the face-off and was able to run out the clock. The Hornets only led for 6:36 of the contest, but it was the final portion of the game.

Brothers Luke and Julian Kammerman and Whitlow combined for 15 goals and five assists. Luca Docking, Clayton Bewick and Jake Brader also had goals for Roanoke.

Now 9-4 overall and 5-1 in the ODAC, the Maroons will host Hampden-Sydney this Saturday evening at 7 pm at Kerr Stadium in Salem.
