The Roanoke College women’s lacrosse team will open their Old Dominion Athletic Conference schedule this Saturday when they host the University of Lynchburg at noon at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons were in Ewing, New Jersey last Saturday to take on the College of New Jersey in lacrosse and dropped a 13-11 decision as they fell to 2-5 overall, all against non-conference opponents.

Roanoke scored first against the 14th ranked Lions but Jersey bounced back and led 5-2 after the first quarter. Sydney Winpigler dished out an assist and scored two of her own in the second to help RC cut the deficit to one in the second quarter but TCNJ scored twice in the final two minutes to keep their three-goal advantage going into the half.

Roanoke outscored the Lions 3-2 in the third quarter to make it a two-goal game going into the final 15 minutes. However, the Lions tallied three goals in the first five minutes of the fourth and the Maroons couldn’t catch them despite netting three late scores.

Salem High grad Zoe Blair was the top performer offensively for Roanoke, tallying four goals and an assist for five points. Winpigler was right behind her with a pair of goals and a pair of helpers for four points. Maddie McDonald and Sarah Brisson were the other multi-point recorders with three and two respectively. McDonald had two goals and an assist while Brisson had one of each.

Roanoke was at Mary Washington on Wednesday of this week but results were too late for publication.
