The Roanoke College women lost their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference basketball game of the season when the Maroons fell to Randolph-Macon last Saturday. The Yellow Jackets took a 60-53 win in Ashland.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 10-2 lead midway through the first quarter before Roanoke responded with a 6-2 run to close out the opening period with R-MC leading 12-8. Both teams found an offensive rhythm early in the second quarter, with Roanoke scoring 14 points and the Yellow Jackets with 17. Unfortunately, neither team was able to score in the final 2:20 of the half after Rose Sande made a jump shot at that time.

The third quarter went back and forth throughout the period R-MC pushed their lead to 10 points. The Yellow Jackets pushed their lead to as many as 13 in the fourth quarter, but the Maroons responded by going on a 13-3 run to pull within three on a pair of free throws by Nora Schroeder with 27 seconds left. However, R-MC made all four free throws to finish the game and escape with a 60-53 win. Sande had 17 points and Lauren Keel had 13 to lead the Maroons.

The loss dropped the RC women to 5-1 in the ODAC and 11-2 overall. Roanoke was scheduled to play at Washington & Lee in Lexington on Wednesday and the Maroons are back home Saturday at 2 pm to host Randolph College at the Cregger Center in Salem.
