The Roanoke College indoor track & field team competed for the first time in the 2022-23 season when the Maroons hosted 20 other teams in the Cregger Field House for the 2022 Bast-Cregger Invitational. The two-day meet took place on Friday afternoon and all-day Saturday with over 45 individual and relay events.
Among the highlights, Sam Crawford broke the Roanoke school record in the 300m with a new record time of 35.43 to finish runner-up in the event. Brady Fowler tied the school record in the 60m with a time of 6.94, 14th best in the NCAA Division III this year.
Victor Cardwell broke the Maroon school record in the 600m with a third place finish in time of 1:24.65. The Maroons took home the top four spots in the pole vault with, in order of finish, Joseph Eldridge (4.05m), Edward Rygalski (3.90m), Dominic McCombs (3.90m), and Miles Enstrom (3.75m) all claiming spots for Roanoke.
Eldridge was named the ODAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. A freshman from Chattanooga, Tenn., his clearance ranks second in the ODAC sits just outside the top-50 in NCAA Division III.
For the women, Mikayala Hefferon was runner up in the 300m with a finals time of 42.82 and Cammi Winston was runner up in the triple jump with a distance of 10.44m.
With a pair of runner-up finishes at the 2022 Bast-Cregger Invitational, Grace Fowler was named the ODAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. A junior from Lewisville, N.C., Grace put together a strong season-opening performance in the throws. She finished second overall and was the top Division III competitor in both the shot put and the weight throw. She heaved the shot 11.32 meters (37-1.75) to take over the top spot in the ODAC so far this season. In the weight throw, Fowler flung the implement 14.46 meter (47-5.25) to rank second in the ODAC.
Roanoke is now off until the 2023 Finn Pincus Invitational on January 20-21 in Salem.
