The Salem Red Sox will hit the road today to begin a four game road trip to Winston-Salem. The Sox will play the Dash Thursday and Friday at 7 pm, Saturday at 6 pm and Sunday afternoon at 2 pm.

The Sox have cooled off a bit after a red hot start. Salem went 6-1 in the season opening homestand and the Sox were 7-2 before losing three in a row, including back-to-back 5-0 shutout losses at Buies Creek on Saturday and Sunday.

The Sox broke out of their offensive malaise Monday night with four runs and eight hits, but were outmatched by the offense of the Potomac Nationals as they dropped a 9-4 decision at Haley Toyota Field in Salem. Potomac batted around in the fourth inning, sending seven runs home, and never trailed. Salem’s first run of the game came with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, snapping a 23-inning scoreless stretch dating back to Friday’s 4-2 win at Buies Creek.

The Sox snapped a three game losing streak with a win at home on Tuesday night, beating Potomac 7-4 to improve to 8-5 on the season. Santiago Espinal, Jerry Downs and Tyler Hill had two hits each and Daniel Gonzalez picked up a win in relief as Salem scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to come from behind in the win. Downs is hitting .317 through the first two weeks of the season.

Salem had a morning game on Wednesday before taking off for Winston-Salem. The Sox will return home to begin a six game homestand next Tuesday, April 24, as Frederick and Myrtle Beach come to town for three games each.
