Roanoke– Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection is set to receive a $10,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petco Love in support of its lifesaving work for animals in Roanoke.
Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested $380 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations — like ours — across North America, with 6.8 million pets adopted and counting.
“Our investment in Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection is part of more than $15M in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We launched Petco Love Lost, a national lost and found database that uses patented image-recognition technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to provide an enhanced interactive environment for our resident cats and kittens as they wait for their adopters,” said Michael Warner, interim director. “Potential adopters will be able to observe and play with the cats in their refurbished free roam cat room to get a glimpse of how the cats would react in a home. The free roam cat room provides more space for kittens to play and romp, and for older cats to have more room to expand their biscuit making operations,” Warner explained.
Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection is the local open intake municipal shelter for the city of Roanoke, counties of Botetourt and Roanoke, and the town of Vinton that provides sheltering services for pets in our jurisdictions. Its mission is to reunite lost pets with their pet parents and find loving homes through adoption or rescue placement for its adoptable pets. The RCACP intakes approximately 3,200 to 3,500 animals each year and has a dedicated staff and volunteer group to provide enrichment, fostering, medical care, and placement for the pets who we care for in the shelter. Since 2013, the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection has improved our community support and awareness to save the vulnerable pet population in the Roanoke Valley and strengthened our presence through numerous adoption events and social media engagement.
