
The Salem RidgeYaks opened a six game homestand against the Delmarva Shorebirds with a 12-4 day game win at Salem Memorial Ballpark Tuesday. The Yaks are home through Sunday to host the Baltimore Orioles farm team.
Tuesday’s game was tied at 3-3 after four innings but the RidgeYaks broke it open with a five-run bottom of the fifth. Enddy Azocar and Luke Heyman got the party started with back-to-back home runs and when the dust cleared the Yaks were leading 8-3.
Azocar finished the game with three hits and three runs scored while Heyman was two-for-three with two runs scored and two batted in. D’Angelo Ortiz also had two hits and Andrews Opata stole his 14th base of the season.
Myles Patton started on the mound and pitched the first five innings to pick up the win. Jacob Mayers followed with three no-hit, no-run innings, fanning six, before Harry Blum pitched the ninth.
With the win the RidgeYaks improved to 13-15 on the season. They’re in third place in the Carolina League’s North Division, six and a half games behind Fredricksburg and three and a half behind Hill City (Lynchburg) as of Tuesday’s win.
This week’s homestand continues with 6:35 starts through Saturday and a 2:05 pm Sunday matinee. Tonight is Country Night and Friday is Teacher Appreciation Night as Educators receive two free upper-level tickets with their school ID. Fireworks follow the game.
Saturday is “Pickleball Night” at the Yaks. The first 750 fans will receive a Salem RidgeYaks pickleball paddle.
Following Sunday’s game the Yaks will be out of town for two weeks, with six games in Fredricksburg next week followed by six in Lynchburg.
