The Roanoke College men’s soccer team improved to 9-4-1 overall and 4-1 in the ODAC with a 4-0 win over Hampden-Sydney at Salem’s Kerr Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
The Maroons got two goals each from Michael Chang and Cole Thornton in the win. Chang also had an assist and Atticus Cooke, Benji Pullen and Marshall Hodge had one assist each. Nick Tadros made two saves for the Maroons, who outshot the Tigers 7-2.
The win was Roanoke’s fourth in a row, including a 1-0 win over Washington & Lee in Lexington on Saturday. Jon-Cody Mactutus converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute to lift Roanoke to the conference win. With the score deadlocked at 0-0 at the 84:53 mark, a Roanoke player was pulled down in the box, giving RC the PK chance which Mactutus converted to give RC the only goal it would need.
A defensive struggle, RC held a slim 8-7 advantage in shots, while W&L had nine of the 11 corner kicks on the day. Tadros earned the shutout in net for the Maroons, making a pair of second saves.
The Maroons are at Shenandoah on Friday evening, followed by a home game with Randolph on Wednesday, October 18.
