The Roanoke College softball team will play host to Virginia Wesleyan in an important Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader Friday. Games are scheduled for 2 and 4 pm at the James I. Moyer Complex.

Virginia Wesleyan is a perennially strong team and currently and comes into the week undefeated at 21-0. The Marlins have played just two conference games and are tied at the top of the ODAC with Randolph-Macon, who is also 2-0 in the conference and 19-1 overall.

The Maroons were scheduled to play 17-3 Emory & Henry on Tuesday of this week in Salem, but that doubleheader was postponed due to wet conditions and rescheduled for April 17. Roanoke was scheduled to play Guilford at Moyer for two games Wednesday, but results were too late for publication.

Roanoke was 14-10 prior to the doubleheader with Guilford. RC opened ODAC play in Harrisonburg last weekend by splitting a doubleheader with Bridgewater. The Maroons lost the first game in eight innings, 2-0, but bounced back to shut out the Royals in the nightcap, 8-0.

Teresa Wagner allowed only three hits on the mound in game two. Roanoke scored three runs in the top of the second as Kendall Penn singled to center and then scored on an EMU error along with Kate Priester to take a 2-0 lead. Taylor Carter closed the inning with an RBI, scoring Marlene Carlson.

In the top of the fifth, Anna Clowdis hit an infield single to score Wagner who led off the inning with a walk. Mattie Morris and Priester both drove in one run to extend the lead to 6-0. A triple from Katie Smith in the top of the sixth plated Carter and Bailey Perdue to close out the scoring.

In the first game Eastern Mennonite scored off a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth. Emily Salsberry was tabbed with the loss, allowing only two runs off seven hits while striking out seven in 7.2 innings of work.
