The fall 2022 semester got underway last week for students and faculty at Roanoke College.

“I asked at last week’s faculty meeting how the first day of classes had gone, and I got a room full of thumbs up; one person said the day had felt ‘beautifully normal,’” Kathy Wolfe, vice president and dean of the college, said in a statement to The Salem Times-Register.

“It’s so great to have the student energy fully back on the campus—our first-year enrollment is up, we have 18 wonderful new faculty colleagues in departments across the College, and there’s a good vibe, especially with the positive outlook of our new president, Dr. Shushok,” she added. Frank Shushok succeeded Michael C. Maxey as the college’s 12th president. “Students enjoy interacting with him, but they especially love it when his dog Maple is on campus. She steals the show.”

Move-in day for new students was Aug. 27, followed by move-in day for returning students Aug. 28. Evening classes started Aug. 30. The first day of day classes was Aug. 31.

The classes for the fall semester run until Dec. 9.
