Roanoke College wins 3rd straight

The Roanoke College men won their third straight basketball game last Saturday when they took a 73-65 win over Eastern Mennonite in Harrisonburg. All three wins in the streak were on the road against Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponents, evening RC’s conference record at 5-5.

Josh Freund led the Maroons with 21 points and 10 rebound while Jorden Davis added 14 points and Joe Mikalauskas and Caleb Jordan contributed 11 and 10. Roanoke shot 56.4% on the day, going 31-for-55.

Neither team was able to take more than a four-point lead through the first 13 minutes of play before EMU took a 28-21 lead. Roanoke responded with 11 of the next 13 points as a three-pointer from Brandon Harrell gave RC a 32-30 advantage with 2:28 remaining.

RC opened the second half with a 17-3 run over the first five minutes, highlighted by threes from Davis, Miles, and Mikalauskas to make it 52-38. EMU brought it within one at 59-58 with 6:28 left, but Freund and Jordan each made back-to-back buckets to push th e lead to 72-65 and Roanoke held EMU scoreless through the final 2:17 to secure the win.

Last Wednesday in Lexington the Maroons defeated Washignton & Lee, 90-54. Four Maroons scored in double-digits, headed by C.J. Miles with 18 points and Mikalauskas with 17 points. Davis had 14 and Freund added 10.

The Maroons improved to 12-7 overall with the win streak and were scheduled to return home Wednesday to host Emory & Henry, but results were too late for publication. On Saturday Roanoke will take on Shenandoah at the Cregger Center in Salem at 1 pm.
