The Roanoke County School Board announced two new assistant superintendents last week, both effective July 1.
Dr. Hayley Poland, currently an assistant superintendent with Roanoke City Public Schools, will return to Roanoke County Public Schools as assistant superintendent of student services.
Poland first joined Roanoke County Public Schools in 2010 as a school counselor and later was named coordinator of school counseling services. In 2014, she moved to Roanoke City Public Schools as director of school counseling and ultimately became an assistant superintendent.
The board also announced that Jill Green, principal of Northside High School, will become assistant superintendent for administration and human resources.

Green began her career with Roanoke County Public Schools in 1998 as assistant principal at Northside Middle School. In 2001, she became principal at Glenvar Middle School. She joined Botetourt County Public Schools in 2005, serving as an instructional supervisor and director of human resources, before returning to Roanoke County Public Schools in 2020 as principal of Northside High School.
“I’m thrilled that Hayley is returning to Roanoke County Public Schools and that Jill is coming to central office,” said Dr. Jamie Soltis, who will serve as the new superintendent of Roanoke County Public Schools beginning in July.
“Hayley and Jill are experienced educators, and I’m gratified they will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to their respective positions as we continue our mission to prepare students to be Opportunity Ready,” Soltis said.
