Roanoke County Science Fair is February 18

Fair to recognize outstanding work in science projects

 The public is invited to attend the Roanoke County Science Fair on Saturday, February 18 in the gymnasium at William Byrd Middle School.

As many as 100 Roanoke County students will be participating in this year’s event. These students will represent the five middle and five high schools in Roanoke County as well as the Burton Center for Arts and Technology and the Roanoke Valley Governor’s School. Exhibits will be displayed at 11:30a.m. Awards will be presented in the auditorium at 12:30 p.m.

High school and Middle school winners will be chosen to compete in the Western Virginia Regional Science Fair to be held at Hollins University on Saturday, March 4, 2017.

Awards at the Western Virginia Regional Science Fair include scholarships from Roanoke College, Hollins University, and Virginia Western Community College. Hollins University also will award a large scholarship to the top female Grand Award winner from the Alice Bull Memorial Scholarship Fund. Virginia Western Community College will award one-year of tuition to the first-place winners in each category. The two Grand winners receive a paid trip to compete in the International Science and Engineering Fair to be held May 14-19 2017 in Los Angeles CA.
