The Salem and Glenvar track teams were among 23 teams competing in the Blue Demon Invitational at Christiansburg High School last Saturday. Both teams had some outstanding performances with the post-season near.
For the Salem boys Aedon Wiley won the 200 meters, was third in the 100 meters and anchored the winning 4×100 meter relay team with Ji’Zaiah Johnson, Fergens Ciril and Julian Morton.
The boys 4×400 team of Tristen Noel, Nazeser Miller, Keenan Helm and DaVon Jones also placed first with a time of 3:21.69. That’s a new school record and the best time in the state so far in Class 4 and sixth overall in the state. Jones was also third in the 110 hurdles, Noel was fourth in the 400 and Jayden Wood was sixth in the triple jump.
For the girls, the 4×800 relay team of Olivia Huff, Caroline Huff, Addison Hancock and Audrey Harmon took second.
For Glenvar, Joey Loder swept the 110 and 300 hurdles with times of 14.44 in the highs and 38.73 in the lows. Loder will be signing to run in college at Radford University this Friday.
The Glenvar boys’ distance medley relay also took first with Asher Faught, Evan Harris, Will Howard and Aldin Smith. Evan Harris was third in the 800.
The girls distance medley relay also won with Anna Hall, Lauren Smith, Everly Shanks and Raaya Bryson. Kailee McDonald with sixth in the 400.
The Highlanders were scheduled to run in an “All Three Rivers District” meet on Wednesday of this week at Radford High School. Salem will be competing in the Golden Eagle Invitational at Staunton River High this Saturday.
