Salem City Schools has welcomed 27 new employees as the division prepares for the start of the 2026-27 school year.
The new educators spent part of the week participating in orientation and training sessions designed to help them become familiar with the school division and connect with their colleagues before students return to the classroom.
The group represents a wide range of professional backgrounds and experience levels. Some educators bring more than 25 years of classroom experience from other Virginia school divisions, while others are beginning their careers as first-year teachers.
Several of the new hires are Salem natives and graduates of Salem City Schools, while others are joining the division from neighboring states.
School officials encouraged the community to welcome the new educators as they begin the school year and thanked them for their commitment to Salem students.
The 2026-27 school year begins Tuesday, Aug. 18, for Salem City Schools students.
