Salem dropped their first two matches to open the season. Last Thursday at home the girls dropped a five-set  heartbreaker to Cave Spring. The Spartans won the first set, 25-19, then lost the second, 25-16. Salem went up again with a 25-22 win in the third but the Knights rallied to win the next two, 25-19 and 15-13 in a nail-biter to 15.

Ella Walker had nine blocks and four aces for Salem while Reese Redford had 37 digs and four aces. Madie Loyd had 10 kills and 15 assists and Kennedy Scales had seven kills and 22 digs for the Spartans.

Salem traveled to Blacksburg and a strong Bruin team beat the Spartans in three, 25-9, 25-15 and 25-12. Kai Bowen had seven kills and two blocks while Loyd had eight assists and a couple blocks. Scales had four kills and a dozen digs.

Salem lost to Hidden Valley Tuesday in three sets.
